5 dresses from the ’90s you’ll wear again in 2026

Spring 2026 is bringing back one of fashion’s favorite decades: the 1990s. After the bold excess of the late ’80s, the ’90s introduced a more minimal, fresh, and sometimes grunge aesthetic — and that influence is returning strongly through dress trends this season. Designers and celebrities alike are revisiting iconic silhouettes inspired by figures like Kate Moss, Naomi Campbell, Jennifer Aniston, and Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy.

Here are the main ’90s dress styles making a comeback:

1. The slip dress

The ultimate ’90s essential returns with satin fabrics, lace details, and lingerie-inspired aesthetics. It can be styled casually with boots or layered for a grunge effect. The appeal lies in its simplicity and versatility, and second-hand versions are especially popular again.

2. The babydoll dress

Playful and slightly rebellious, the babydoll silhouette is back, influenced by icons like Courtney Love. Modern versions include ruffles, mini lengths, and soft feminine shapes seen on contemporary celebrities and models.

3. The spaghetti-strap dress

A classic warm-weather staple, often associated with Kate Moss’s effortless ’90s style. It can easily transition from day to night — worn casually with sneakers or elevated with heels or boots.

4. The velvet dress

Velvet is returning as a nostalgic but versatile fabric. Whether styled for indie-inspired outfits or more formal eveningwear, this texture adds depth and drama while referencing iconic ’90s looks.

5. The column dress

More of a cut than a style, the long, slim column silhouette was a red-carpet favorite in the ’90s — especially for Jennifer Aniston — and is reappearing as a sleek, elegant option for modern wardrobes.
